Austal USA Shrimp Cookoff - held to benefit 'Hands on Alabama'

Project Date:

2011 was the first year that Austal USA competed in a shrimp cookoff which was held to benefit Hands On South Alabama, a non-profit organisation which creates opportunities for people to volunteer, learn and lead in their communities. Austal and the other participants prepared 16 pounds of shrimp, provided by the event organisers, in various forms for the community members who purchased tickets to taste and judge. Austal also assisted another competitor with volunteers this year as most of their volunteers were called away to assist with the relief effort as a result of a major tornado that had devastated much of central Alabama only days before the event. It was Austal’s willingness to go “beyond the call of duty” that won us the “Spirit” award this year.
