Hawaii Superferry Charity Day
Project Date: April 2007
Having successfully completed her sea trials during the first week of April, Hull 615 was officially christened “Alakai” which means “Ocean Path”. On a stormy 14 April 2007, “Alakai” became the location for the Austal Charity Event to benefit the Ronald McDonald House of Mobile.
Over 500 event participants roamed the entire passenger deck partaking in authentic Hawaiian entertainment and the delicious hors d’oeuvres and desserts provided by a local caterer.
A few lucky ticket holders got to experience the technical aspects of the ferry with a tour of the wheel house. Towards the end of the afternoon, the guests were treated to a show by the Hawaiian dancers on the car deck.
Austal USA COO, Dan Spiegel was excited to present a cheque for $136,000 to the representatives of Ronald McDonald house who were visibly overwhelmed by Austal’s donation.
The following day provided the employees with an opportunity to further impress their families and friends with their expertise by having a family day aboard the Hawaii Superferry.
