The auxiliary floating dry dock, medium (AFDM) provides docking capability for the construction, maintenance and repair of ships and boats.
As a “Rennie”-type floating dry dock, the vessel has continuous wing walls and several sectional pontoons to provide the stability and displacement required to lift and submerge vessels from the water using buoyancy.
The design incorporates features to improve operability and maintainability based on our team’s experience and lessons learned from owning, operating and maintaining a similar dry dock at our Mobile, Alabama, ship repair facility.
AFDM will have the capability to dry dock Independence and Freedom-variant Littoral Combat Ships, Arleigh Burke Guided Missile Destroyers, Ticonderoga Guided Missile Cruisers, and Whidbey Island and Harpers Ferry Dock Landing Ships.
