We deliver proven performance, next generation innovation and uncompromising reliability.
As a world leader of fully customised passenger and vehicle passenger ferries, we provide operators with solutions to meet their requirements in an evolving maritime world.
Offering monohull, catamaran and trimaran hull forms ranging from 16 metres to 130 metres in length, built with aluminium or steel and with speeds from less than 10 to over 50 knots, we have three decades of understanding that one size does not fit all. We know every operator and route can have unique requirements and are proven in delivering solutions with layouts, speeds, seakeeping and interiors optimised to match the required service, whether that’s commuter services or tourism orientated operations.
Our proven capability to design vessels
With more than three decades of expertise in delivering commercial vessels to the world’s leading operators, we understand our customers’ requirements for reliable, proven platforms and expertise to sustain their fleets.
Customisation doesn’t stop at the technical specifications of these commercial vessels, our interior design team and fitout departments can design and produce a wide range of fully customised outfits to meet any operational requirement and budget. Liaising directly with our customers, or with their preferred interior designers, our team support the desired vision to achieve an ideal passenger experience, whilst ensuring the vessel always achieves performance specifications.
Ensuring our customers stay ahead in an evolving maritime world
In collaboration with Gotlandsbolaget we are developing a 130-metre flexible fuel high speed ferry. Designed with sustainability at the forefront, and future-proofed for an evolving maritime world, the vessel will have a combined cycle gas turbine, providing the flexibility to operate on a variety of fuel types, including hydrogen. ‘Gotland Horizon X’ will be a hydrogen-ready, vehicle passenger catamaran for climate-neutral operations, with construction due to begin in 2026.
Keeping the world moving, our global production capacity
With dedicated commercial vessel shipyards in Australia, the Philippines and Vietnam, operated by a highly skilled local workforce and supported by our expert design and construction resources, we have the global production capacity to offer fast, on-time delivery - even on multiple vessel orders. Our advanced, modular shipbuilding techniques provide unequalled levels of efficiency and productivity within our shipyards, meaning reduced costs and faster construction times for our customers. Applying ISO9000 and ISO14000 quality assured and certified design and production standards, we produce vessels that consistently meet and exceed the highest international quality requirements.
Passenger ferries
For more than three decades we have delivered passenger ferries to leading operators across the globe, with monohull, catamaran and trimaran hull forms ranging from 21 to 130 metres in length, built in aluminium and steel, we provide our customers with tailored solutions for their operational requirements.
Apetahi Express 66
The Apetahi Express was designed by our teams in Australia and Vietnam to meet the exacting demands of interisland transport, and constructed at our shipyard in Vung Tau, Vietnam. The vessel was the Degage Group's sixth commercial ferry to be designed and constructed by us.
Featuring a length overall (LOA) of 66.4 metres, beam of 15.2 metres and draft of 1.8 metres, the vessel boasts multiple indoor and outdoor decks for passengers and a large cargo space accommodating up to 16 tonnes of cargo. Fitted with four diesel engines and waterjets, as well as our Motion Control System and the latest MARINELINK-Essentials program, the new ferry achieved a speed of 38 knots during sea trials.
During the design of Apetahi Express, The Degage Group placed an emphasis on reducing CO2 emissions and improving fuel efficiency. By optimising the aluminium hull design, we achieved a significant reduction in resistance that not only lowers fuel consumption but improves seakeeping and delivers a more comfortable ride for passengers.
Vehicle-passenger (ROPAX) ferries
Ensuring our customers stay ahead in an evolving maritime world has always been a priority, in the 1990’s we were a significant contributor to the revolution of the European vehicle passenger ferry industry. In the early 2000’s we were the first shipbuilder to construct a 126m trimaran ROPAX (Roll-on, roll-off vehicle passenger ferry).
Shaping the future of ROPAX ferry designs
In 2005, Benchijigua Express revolutionised fast sea transportation and opened new markets beyond the ability of existing fast ferry designs. The vessel was designed and constructed by Austal for Fred Olsen, a leading operator across the Canary Islands, Spain; our proven trimaran hull design led to an additional two orders for similar vessels in recent years, expanding their fleet.
Our hull form for the 126m Benchijigua Express is the same hull form that was subsequently utilised for the United States Navy’s Littoral Combat Ship.
Exceptional manufacturing
Our global teams have the skills, experience and facilities to manufacture in steel or aluminium, meaning we can truly tailor all aspects of a vessel to their operational requirements.
Dory 2
This vessel has been designed with a new steel monohull, which includes an aluminium superstructure accommodating up to 140 seated passengers, 17 crew and features a main cargo deck area of 494 sqm. This vessel is our seventh to be built for The Degage Group, but significantly the first in steel, with construction having begun in 2024.
