Our story

In Perth, Western Australia, 1988, we commenced operations with a vision to build high quality commercial vessels for the international market. Today, with three decades of experience, we are a recognised world leader in the design and construction of customised commercial and defence solutions, supplying maritime vessels to ferry operators, navies and defence forces across the globe.

From safe, modern shipyards located in Western Australia, the United States of America, Vietnam and the Philippines, we have delivered and continue to construct more than 350 vessels for 122 operators in 59 countries around the world. Since listing on the Australian Stock Exchange in December 1998, we have diversified and strengthened our product base through the strategic acquisition of a number of shipbuilding and information technology companies. With a genuine focus on emerging maritime technologies and cutting-edge ship designs, we are leading the industry in the development of innovative commercial and defence platforms.

Our extensive vessel range includes passenger and vehicle-passenger ferries, patrol boats, high speed support vessels, surface combatants and multi-role vessels, with proven expertise of construction in both aluminium and steel. In addition to shipbuilding operations we design, install, integrate and maintain sophisticated vessel command and control systems, communications and radar systems as well as information management systems, such as MARINELINK and Motion Control.

As the first international shipbuilder contracted to deliver vessels for United States Defense Forces, our shipyard in the United States was established in 1999 and is now one of the largest employers in Mobile, Alabama. Our facility serves as the centre of manufacturing for several programs for the United States Navy, including the Littoral Combat Ship (LCS), Expeditionary Fast Transport (EPF) and modules for the Virginia-class submarines.

In 2011, we acquired a major commercial shipbuilding facility in Balamban on the Island of Cebu, Philippines, to construct high speed passenger and vehicle-passenger ferries, offshore crew transfer and windfarm vessels for growing South East Asia markets.

Expanding our operations further, in 2018 we established our shipbuilding facility in Vietnam. Located in the port city of Vung Tau in the south of Vietnam, the shipyard broadens our production capacity in the region ensuring we are strategically positioned to cater for the global market demands of ferry operators and offshore support vessels.

Our support for our customers doesn’t end upon delivery, we are an established provider of vessel maintenance and management services from our facilities, partnering with a network of service providers across the globe to ensure our customers remain operational.
